What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, helps individuals understand the behaviors, emotions, and ideas that contribute to their present stress, problems, or mental illness. Psychotherapy can help individuals alleviate or better manage troubling symptoms so that they can improve their functioning and well-being. Its goal is to provide individuals with coping techniques and problem-solving skills to regain a sense of control and enjoyment in life.
Psychotherapy sessions are usually held once per week and may reduce in frequency when symptoms decrease. They last about 50 minutes, and it is essential that the patient and therapist work together collaboratively. Trust in the therapeutic relationship is key to facilitating change and to the patient benefiting from treatment.
