Abbie L. Loughran, LCSW

Abbie L. Loughran is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with extensive experience working with patients of varying ages, socioeconomic, and multicultural backgrounds. She provides outpatient psychotherapy to patients managing mental illness, coping with loss and life struggles, and dealing with brain injury.

Ms. Loughran comes to us after working for more than seven years at Bellevue Hospital Center, a level one trauma center in New York City. At Bellevue, she was part of an interdisciplinary team on the brain injury rehabilitation unit as well as periodically covering the entire hospital and emergency room. Ms. Loughran worked with patients and their families as they coped with life after injury or illness, chronic mental illness, and in many cases accepting a “new normal.” She was able to develop her skills in crisis counseling as Bellevue accepts and treats patients with some of the most severe injuries and illnesses. Ms. Loughran has also worked at a private practice in New York City where she provided psychotherapy on a weekly and biweekly basis to children, adolescents, and adults. The wealth of her experience enables her to connect with patients from various backgrounds.

Ms. Loughran received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Emerson College in Boston, MA, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She performed professionally and later traveled the country in a Broadway National Tour as a dancer/singer/actress before returning to graduate school. Ms. Loughran graduated with honors earning a Master of Social Work degree with a clinical concentration from Fordham University’s School of Social Services. She was given the opportunity to work in preventative childcare services and substance abuse counseling in the New York Foundling as her foundation year field placement. Her second year advanced field placement was in Mount Sinai Hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Brain Injury Rehabilitation.

Ms. Loughran employs Solution Focused and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to assist patients in identifying their individual needs and creating adaptive coping strategies to support their goals. She believes in the importance of therapy to help individuals of all ages cope with life’s changes and challenges and to utilize the tools necessary to be our best selves.

Ms. Loughran is a member of the National Association of Social Workers.  She moved back to The Jersey Shore after spending 14 ½ years in New York City.  Ms. Loughran loves spending time with family and friends, reading, and going to the beach.  Fun fact: Ms. Loughran’s signature color is red and she loves to bake with her children.
